Find Your Happy Place: Yoga in Dubai

“Wherever you go, there you are”
— Confucius

Having just returned from working in Dubai, a place known for its ambition and relentless pace, the quote 'Wherever you go, there you are' resonates deeply. It perfectly captures the essence of yoga, a practice I found myself leaning on even amidst the vibrant energy of the place. It reminds us that our inner state of being is always with us, regardless of our external surroundings. In today's fast-paced world, whether it's the bustling streets of Dubai or the pressures of daily life back home, it's easy to get caught up in chasing external happiness, believing that achieving certain goals or reaching specific destinations will finally bring us contentment.

However, as I discovered, and as yoga teaches us, true happiness lies within. Through the practice of physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation, we cultivate a deeper connection with ourselves, fostering inner peace and tranquility that transcend the external world. This became especially clear to me when I experienced the thriving yoga scene in Dubai, particularly at Nilaya House.

Dubai's yoga scene is thriving, and there's one studio in particular that stands out for its dedication to the Iyengar method: Nilaya House. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Nilaya House, and I was truly impressed by their dedication to the Iyengar method. If you're looking for a comprehensive Iyengar yoga experience in the UAE, Nilaya House stands out.

What immediately struck me was the sheer variety of classes offered. With approximately 20 classes per week, taught by five distinct instructors, there's something for every level of practitioner. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced student, you'll find a class to suit your needs. The shalas themselves, both downstairs and upstairs, are beautifully designed and dedicated to the Iyengar tradition. They're fully equipped with all the necessary props, including a magnificent rope wall – a hallmark of a classic Iyengar yoga space. The attention to detail in creating an authentic environment is evident. Nilaya House offers a truly immersive Iyengar experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to deepen their practice.

Kindness begins within. In yoga, we practice kindness by moving with care, breathing with patience, and meeting ourselves exactly as we are. This is something I carried with me as I navigated the energy of Dubai, and something I bring back with me now.

Whatever yoga practice you do this spring, know that it will make a difference! May this week be a gentle reminder: When we offer kindness to ourselves, we naturally share it with the world. Whether you find that kindness on a mat in Dubai, or in your own home, it starts within.
